2014 WSOP Millionaire Maker: Second Biggest Field in WSOP History

If there's a decline in poker interest, you certainly wouldn't be able to tell from the 2014 WSOP Millionaire Maker tournament. This $1,500 buy-in event drew an astounding 7,977 players, which is the second largest field in WSOP history. The only bigger tournament is the 2006 WSOP Main Event, which drew 8,773 players and saw the champion, Jamie Gold, win $12 million.

Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier patiently waits for Passport while 2014 WSOP kicks off

The World Series of Poker is a time for the top tournament players to get together and compete for massive prize money. But as the WSOP kicks off today, one notable absence will be Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier.

The Triple Crown winner had his passport stolen when he was in Toronto. And when he applied with an emergency work reason to get a new passport, the French government told him that it would be several weeks before another passport arrived. Here's a look at what ElkY tweeted:

Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey team up for 2014 WSOP Bracelet Bet

With 15 WSOP gold bracelets between them, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu are a pretty fearsome duo together. So this summer, they've decided to combine their powers and make a big WSOP prop bet.

Ivey and Negreanu have offered even-money odds that they'll win at least win one gold bracelet. The biggest stipulation of this wager is that only bracelets won in the Vegas WSOP count - not anything from the WSOP APAC. Here's a look at a couple of tweets from Negreanu on the matter:

Vanessa Selbst gets Last Laugh against Jason Mo in WSOP victory

Thanks to her stellar play in tournaments over the years, Vanessa Selbst has gained quite a bit of respect in the poker community. But there are still a few haters, including Jason Mo, who had something to say about Selbst during the 2014 WSOP $25k Mixed-Max event.

Both players navigated through the 131-player starting field and on to the final table. After Selbst eliminated Ryan Fee, one of Mo's friends, the latter tweeted, "lol Vanessa is so bad, poor fees."

WSOP Champ Mike Matusow to have Movie made about his Crazy Life

Mike Matusow has had more high and low points in his life than 10 people put together. This being said, it should be no surprise that a production company called 1984 Private Defense Contractors thinks his life story is movie-worthy.

WSOP Runner-up Martin Staszko evades Deadly Kidnapping Plot

Being a famous poker player does have its drawbacks, and Martin Staszko recently discovered this after learning that he was the target of a deadly kidnapping plot.

Seven Prague men were recently arrested and indicted on charges of kidnapping, extortion and murder. And one of the most shocking revelations from this arrest is that the men planned to kidnap and extort Staszko at one point.

Dewey Tomko's Byline Wrongly used to promote Damaging NJ Online Poker Article?

While we hate to say it, because we at YPoker love the game, there's no shortage of scammers and self-serving creeps in the poker world. Russ Hamilton, Scott Tom, Howard Lederer, Jose Macedo, Haseeb Qureshi...okay, the list just keeps going. And while Dewey Tomko may not have been on the level of these scumbags, he was recently vilified by the poker industry for a Press of Atlantic City article that he wrote.

Phil Hellmuth mentoring 2012 WSOP ME Champ Greg Merson

Nobody can argue that Greg Merson wasn't lucky (and skilled) when he took down the 2012 WSOP Main Event along with an $8.53 million prize. But if there's one thing that Merson had bad luck with, it's missing out on a lucrative sponsorship deal. Moreover, he also missed the opportunity to gain a launching point for furthering his poker fame.

That said, Merson has been making a bigger effort these days to promote himself and the game of poker in general. And who better to ask advice of in this department than the greatest poker self promoter of them all - Phil Hellmuth.

WSOP Champ Keven Stammen wins WPT Championship Title and $1.35m

Almost five years ago, Keven Stammen notched the biggest victory of his poker career by winning a 2009 WSOP $2.5k NLHE tourney along with $506,786. But now, Stammen can boast of a new career-defining victory: the Season XII WPT World Championship.

The Coldwater, Ohio native maneuvered through a very tough 328-player field en route to taking down this storied tournament along with $1.35 million. Aside from the massive cash prize, he also collected a WPT Champions Trophy, Hublot King Power Unico Watch and a pair of gold Monster 24K Headphones.

Antonio Esfandiari goes from No Sex to begging for Money in an Airport

So how's life been treating Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari after winning the 2012 WSOP Big One for One Drop along with $18.3 million? Well lately, it doesn't sound too good because he was forced to stop having sex for a while and was more recently found broke and starving in an airport.
