WSOP Legend Phil Hellmuth explains why his Wife said No to "Wife Swap"

Phil Hellmuth is one of those rare poker players who's achieved a little mainstream fame, with his latest endeavor including commercials for Carl's Jr. Hamburgers. He could have added to his star recently by appearing on the ABC show "Celebrity Wife Swap." But he was missing one important element to making this happen: his wife's approval.

Katherine Sanborn, who's been married to the poker pro for 25 years, wasn't thrilled about having to go live with another family for two weeks. Furthermore, she's not keen on appearing on camera too often. Hellmuth explained this recently when talking to PokerNews:

It's pretty cool to get that offer. I would love to do it. That kind of stuff is fun for me, and I feel like it's a chance for the world to see me, to see the real me. I think too often people think I'm a jerk. If they see me on that show over two weeks – never lose my temper, never swear, a lot of patience – I think they would say wow, this is the Phil that we’ve never seen before, but this is the real Phil.

Unfortunately my wife is a psychiatrist at a pretty famous institution, and she hates press. She doesn't like it when they show her on the World Series of Poker coverage...It's unfortunate for me that she just really has no interest. My wife is beautiful, she's in fantastic shape, I drool over her every day. She's brilliant, she’s stable, she's very logical, and so I think she would do just phenomenally well on the show. People would love her and say great things about her.

While Hellmuth may not get the opportunity to do Wife Swap, it's not like he'll be lacking for camera time at any point in the near future. Any time that he makes a WSOP run of any kind, it's big news. And as mentioned before, Hellmuth has been doing Carl's Jr. commercials and he's had other TV opportunities too. So even though his wife doesn't like the camera, the Poker Brat will take it any time he can get it.
